UAE is known for its various beautiful scenery and mountainous views, but this latest revelation recognized by an Emirati photographer will definitely take you by surprise.
The pink lake discovered by this 19-year-old student took UAE by storm when he had posted some of the photographs he had taken on Twitter.
This beautiful lake (also now called cotton candy lake) is located north of Ras Al Khaimah on an island called Al Saraya which is just 100 meters away off the coast.
According to the pictures taken, the lake is approximately 40 meters long and 10 meters wide. The bright pink color appears due to the Halobacteria and the algae Dunaliella salina or in layman’s terms, large masses of red algae and bacteria in salt deposited in the lake.
The Environment Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah stated that this lake contains salt that is “four times more than in seawater”. They had also determined that there are around 4000 species of algae present in that lake due to its high saline levels.
However, the study to determine the exact reason for the color is still undergoing. But in the meanwhile, this makes for a great sweet site for the eyes! UAE’s own pink lake! Now that’s a location that should be added to your bucket list.
