Leningrad, also known as Leningrad Band or Gruppa Leningrad, is a renowned Russian ska-punk group known for their high-energy performances, irreverent humor, and provocative lyrics. Formed in 1997 by frontman Sergey “Shnur” Shnurov, the band quickly gained a reputation for blending ska, punk, rock, and traditional Russian folk elements into a unique, rowdy sound. Their music often explores themes of everyday life in Russia, laced with sharp satire and colorful language, which has occasionally sparked controversy and censorship. Despite this, Leningrad’s popularity surged, and they became a cultural phenomenon, filling stadiums and producing hits like “WWW” and “Exhibit” (Экспонат), the latter of which went viral for its humorous portrayal of modern social dynamics. Over the years, the band has undergone numerous lineup changes but has remained a staple in Russian music, celebrated for their raw authenticity and unfiltered commentary on contemporary society.
