The annual race started out in 1991 and has gone on to become an event that celebrates the UAE’s seafaring history. All crewmembers taking part in this race must be Emirati, and teams of sailors will be sailing 60ft dhows, the traditional Arabic vessels.
The race starts at Sir Bu Nair Island, and the finish line is here in Dubai, at the Burj Al Arab. Crews will be competing for millions of dirhams of prizes, and previous years have seen hundreds of dhows competing, making it a breathtaking sight. The action can be seen from the beaches near the Burj Al Arab, as the race draws to a thrilling close.
