Every year, at 8:30 PM on the last Saturday of March, millions of people across the world join in raising awareness of the issues facing our planet. For many years, UAE is actively taking part in this modern initiative. For example, this year, EXPO 2020 pavilions will switch lights off for a minute each during a parade around the Expo 2020 campus. As part of the Switch Off Parade in collaboration with Emirates Nature WWF, each pavilion will, one by one, switch off the lights and be cloaked in darkness for an entire minute to mark Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is more than just an Hour for the planet – it’s a movement for our future. Being one of the world’s largest environmental campaigns, it returns from 8.30 PM on Saturday March 27 – and Emirates Nature-WWF is urging UAE residents to join the movement by switching off the lights (including the balcony Christmas lights still hanging up outside) for a full 3,600 seconds.
Emirates Nature WWF hopes the data collected from the event will help support conservation efforts and the activity is intended to support their non-profit’s objective to protect 30% of the UAE’s wild areas by 2030.
