While We Wait is a meditative installation by Bethlehem-based architects Elias and Yousef Anastas about the cultural claim over nature in Palestine. The towering structure consists of elements of stone from different regions of Palestine, fading upwards in colour from earthy red to pale limestone.
Commissioned by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), the towering stone installation was conceptualised and produced in Palestine by Bethlem-based architect and designer team, Elias and Yousef Anastas.
According to the creators, ‘While We Wait’ is a celebration of the relationship between nature and architecture in the context of the Palestinian landscape. The installation is an extraordinary feat of engineering, created with stone quarried from various locations in Palestine.
The self-supporting installation is digitally cut by robots and hand-finished by artisans using traditional techniques, and also features audio-visual elements. The story of this installation and where it will finally rest is intriguing, you definitely won’t want to miss it.
