Isaac Sullivan is a Dubai-based artist and writer exploring technology and its relationship to altered perceptions of time through performance, installation, and sonic intervention. His recursive performance employs text projections, sampled music, and live noise as progressively accumulating layers, splicing in fragments of its previous recordings to lean into sonic and pictorial decay.
Utopics was first performed at the European Cultural Centre’s Venice Biennale collateral exhibition at Palazzo Mora in May 2019. This work embraces the physicality of the recorded sound as a pressure wave that alters the materials through which it passes while tracing its architectural provenance through accruing layers of reverberation.
