The Brand New Heavies group, performing the virtuoso combination of R&B, acid jazz, and funk, was founded in London in 1985. The basis of the group is made by its founders, who are also songwriters, Andrew Levy, and Simon Bartholomew. Their debut single, Got To Live has already managed to become a club classic, as well as the album with the same name, released in 1989. The debut went gold in the UK and its follow-ups both went platinum, in the process the scored 16 Top 40 hits including Dream Come True, Stay This Way, Midnight At The Oasis, Sometimes and Dream On Dreamer. Successful releases allowed the group to remain at the forefront of the Acid Jazz movement.
Dr. Robert (Robert Howard), and The Blow Monkeys will also take part in the concert. A notable group in the British New Wave movement was founded in 1981. Their first single, Live Today Love Tomorrow became successful on the British music scene. The Blow Monkeys’ debut album, 1984’s Limping For A Generation, was an edgy mix of sinister post-punk, sensual glam rock and dramatic late 60s pop. The group was disbanded in 1990, but since 2007 they have been performing together again.
