Considering the latest global changes, NYU Abu Dhabi Institute will provide talk with several speakers, who have practical experience and understanding of the current economic state on petroleum markets and OPEC’s role in oil policy.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is an intergovernmental organization of 14 nations, which was the first international organization of the Global South. Earlier, OPEC was considered as economic “spearhead” for developing countries and played a pivotal role in the economy as a whole.
Nowadays, due to political divisions, the rise of shale oil, the strength of the climate change agenda, and oil exporters’ plans to diversify their economies, the cooperation among petrostates is being complicated.
Among event speakers:
– Giuliano Garavini, Associate Professor of International History, Roma Tre University in Rome; Author of ‘The Rise and Fall of OPEC in the 20th Century’;
– H.E. Majid Al-Moneef, Former OPEC Governor; Chairman of the International Advisory Committee of King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC);
– Bassam Fattouh, Director of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies;
– Robin Mills, CEO of Qamar Energy.
