UAE is expected to witness a huge meteor shower, which will light up the skies. Around 60 bright meteors and shooting stars, per hour, are expected to create a spectacular display of the Perseids, which are the brighter meteor showers of the year.
Made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus. This is because the direction, or radiant, from which the shower seems to come in the sky lies in the same direction as Perseus.
The Stargazing Party will take place in the Al Qudra desert, which makes for fantastic star observing prospects, with reduced light pollution. Social distancing will be observed and attendees must wear face masks at all times.
The Perseid shower is expected to be so bright this year that every person will be able to see it from home. So, even without going to the Al Qudra Desert, one can take a blanket and get yourself set up outside and enjoy the Perseids show.
You should go to a dark area, in the suburbs or countryside, and prepare to sit outside for a few hours. It takes about 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark, and the longer you wait outside, the more you’ll see.
