Night, Mother is a rendition of Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama that was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. The play was written in 1981, it was successfully staged in theaters and was later adapted for cinema.
The play is directed by Sabiha Majgaonkar. It shares the tale of Jessie Cates, a divorced single mother who lives with her aged mother, Thelma. Thelma is satisfied with her simple life and routine consisting of Saturday night manicures and crochet, entirely unaware of the darkness growing in her daughter. One Saturday night, Jessie opens up to her mother about her internal struggles, embarking on a poignant journey of a mother trying to save her daughter from the claws of depression.
