An Inspector Calls first performance was held in 1945 in the Soviet Union, and in 1946 it was first performed in English at the Old Vic theatre. The events of this three-act drama take place in one night. At the center of the play, that criticizes the hypocrisy of society, is the Birling family. Someone named Inspector Goole comes to their house asking many questions about the suicide of a young woman.
The play has been seen by over four million theatergoers worldwide and as a curriculum favorite has been studied by countless children across the world. The play is directed by multi-award-winning director Patrick Sandford.
