Every year, UNESCO appoints World Book Capital City, marking the best efforts in the field of reading and popularizing books, and in 2019 Sharjah became such a city. The celebration of the World Book Capital Sharjah 2019 will begin with an exceptional cultural showcase – 1001 Nights, The Last Chapter. ⠀
The grand opening act for the official inauguration of the World Book Capital 2019 celebrations in Sharjah will be held on April 23, which will pave the way for a yearlong celebration. A unique alliance of 537 theatre artists and acrobats, innovators, technologists and storytellers representing 25 nationalities are shaping this massive production – a Sharjah original that will capture the imagination of children and adults alike, in five daily shows until April 27. The performance is inspired by some of the most important chapters of human literature written in this part of the world.
