It is the last week of September. Your tenancy ends on the 30th, the landlord wants the keys back by noon, and the new place in Al Barsha “will definitely be ready by the 15th.” You have a sofa, a bed frame, eleven boxes of books and a bike.
This is the Dubai lease cycle. A huge share of contracts roll over in the autumn, and the gap between one tenancy ending and the next one starting is rarely zero days. Sometimes it is two weeks. Sometimes the handover slips and it turns into six. Add the July and August crowd, and short term storage in Dubai becomes something you never think about until you need it by Thursday.

Good if: you want the price before you pick up the phone, and your stuff needs real climate control through the summer.
Skip if: you live in Dubai Marina, in JLT, or in Sharjah, and plan to visit your unit often. Both Vachi sites are in Al Quoz, and someone on the southern corridor may find an operator closer to home.
Vachi Storage runs two climate-controlled sites: 72 6B Street in Al Quoz Industrial Area 3, about five minutes from Mall of the Emirates, and 8 5th Street in Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, which holds the half-height lockers. The units are kept at 20-25°C with humidity under 55%, with HEPA filtration in the air-conditioned wings. Most competitors never give you a number. Access is 24/7, with CCTV and an alarm.
For a gap between flats, the terms matter more than the spec sheet. Contracts start at one month. There is no deposit and no lock-in, and a one-month plan carries no penalty. You can book online, and the phone is answered from 7am to 7pm every day. The homepage shows a 4.8 on Google, 1,000+ customers and five years in Dubai.
Vachi is one of two operators in Dubai publishing a full price ladder. Here it is, in AED per month:
Annual plans come in about 8% cheaper and add a free first month, free pickup and insurance. On a six-week gap, budget for your own move or ask about collection. There is also a separate luggage track with daily and weekly rates, handy if the problem is three suitcases rather than a flat.
Good if: you like doing everything from your phone. You reserve, pay and open the unit through the app, with no keys and no paperwork, and the first month is free.
Skip if: you want someone to come and collect. The pages we read do not mention pickup. Units start from AED 150 a month for the smallest size, with 24/7 access in Al Quoz near main roads and the metro. The minimum is one month.
Good if: your end date is genuinely unknown. Reef does not ask how long you will stay, only that you give 15 days’ notice before moving out, and there is no deposit.
Skip if: International City is the wrong side of town for you. The published ladder is refreshingly clear: 12 sq ft for AED 300, up to 180 sq ft for AED 1,500, with sizes listed in cbm too. Luggage is AED 75 per piece per month, and pickup is available on request. The “first month free” offer needs a 6-12 month stay, so it will not help a short gap.
Good if: the move and the storage are the same problem. Easytruck has been moving households since 2009, and its EasyPod system brings a pod to your door, takes it to an air-conditioned warehouse and delivers it to the new flat without anyone repacking in between.
Skip if: you want a price on the website. It is quote-based. Warehouses are in Al Quoz 1, DIP 2 and Dubai Industrial City, with free access seven days a week.
Good if: you have a boxes-and-bike situation, not a whole flat. Boxit bills by what you store, with published averages of AED 185 for items, AED 850 for a studio or one-bed and AED 2,500 for a two-bed. The minimum monthly rental is AED 90, and you can track what is stored in the app.
Skip if: you need to rummage. This is valet storage in Dubai Industrial City, so you order items back rather than walk in. Packing, pickup and delivery cost extra.
Good if: you are moving between emirates, or you want pickup bundled into the price. E Self Storage serves all seven emirates, with units of 30-200 sq ft from AED 400 a month, a one-month minimum and a free collection when you book.
Skip if: you want to drop by at 11pm. Access runs during set hours, and the per-emirate pricing means Dubai rates need checking on their calculator.
Good if: you are the person who measures the wardrobe before buying the flat. Urban Storage publishes internal dimensions, so the 20 sq ft unit is 91 × 144 × 188 cm and you can check whether the headboard fits. Plans run monthly, quarterly or yearly from Warehouse 8 in Al Quoz Industrial Area 1.
Skip if: you want a number today. Pricing is quote-based.
Good if: you want pickup, storage and return in one call, billed monthly and cancellable any time. The site claims 13+ years in the business and 24-hour access.
Skip if: you like to see an address before you hand over your sofa. We could not find one on the site, and prices are quote-based, with packing and delivery charged separately.
Pack the “gap box” first. It holds the things you will actually need in the next six weeks: documents, chargers, work clothes, one pan. It goes in the car, not the unit.
Label boxes on the side, not the top. They will be stacked.
Take the legs off the bed and the table. Tape the screws to the underside in a zip bag.
Leave mattresses and upholstery to breathe for a day before wrapping if they have been cleaned, and never store anything damp. In a sealed unit, a little moisture in August becomes a smell in October, even at under 55% humidity.
Books at the bottom and back. Anything you might need mid-gap goes by the door.
Photograph everything that goes in. It saves an argument about scratches later.
What is the shortest term I can get? Most operators here start at one month. Reef has no fixed term but wants 15 days’ notice. For a few days, look at luggage storage instead.
Is summer storage in Dubai worth it for a two-month trip? If you are giving up the flat, almost always. If you keep the flat, it depends on how much you are storing and whether the flat stays cooled.
Do I need climate control for a September move? September is still hot. If the gap starts before October, treat it as summer storage.
What does a one-bed cost to store? On published prices, roughly AED 850 a month for a per-item studio or one-bed at Boxit, and AED 865 for a 35 sq ft long locker at Vachi. Check pickup costs before you compare.
Can I add or take things out during the gap? With a self-storage unit, yes, within the operator’s access hours. With per-item valet storage, you request deliveries, and each trip may be billed.
