Sharjah Maritime Museum aims to share the region’s marine stories. Originally opened in Heritage Area in 2003, it was later moved to Al Khan area in 2009.
Focusing specifically on the UAE’s seafaring dhow culture, it is home to the ancient pearl, one of the world’s oldest pearls. Visitors of Sharjah Maritime Museum can explore real traditional wooden seafaring dhows used for fishing, trading, and pearling, each designed according to their use. Genuine Arabian pearls, as well as the art of their collection, measuring, and weighting, are shown here in great detail.
Located right opposite the iconic Sharjah Aquarium, Sharjah Maritime Museum presents a large variety of aspects of the sea-related life that had such a great impact on Sharjah’s heritage, as well as the development of coastal cities for over 6,000 years. Like other museums of Sharjah, Sharjah Maritime Museum is truly advised to visit.
