Wubbo Superbus is the project of the Delft University of Technology on development of high-speed electric buses for long-distance and international passenger traffic at a speed of 250 km/h.
The vehicle is a 15-meter-long electric vehicle with seating for 23 passengers accessible from 16 doors with a cruising speed of 250 kilometers per hour (160 mph) and a range of 215 kilometers (134 mi).
The project also includes construction of special road highways.
At the present moment about 7 million euros, largely provided by the Dutch State has been spent on the project.
Wubbo Superbus is a surprising concept vehicle difficult to define. This vehicle is rather a hybrid of a limousine and a bus.
Wubbo Superbus is also completely eco-friendly as it is equipped with the heavy-duty electric motor and doesn’t emit exhaust gas in the atmosphere.
It was planned that the transport service of the UAE will build the special high-speed highway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi on which Superbus will ply.
Unfortunately, at the moment the destiny of the project remains uncertain. In 2014 the author of the concept and project manager, Vyubbo Okkels died.
It is still hopeful that in the near future, tourists and residents of the Emirates will be able to travel on Wubbo Superbus.
