In partnership with the House of Pianos, Alliance Française is hosting a series of chamber music concerts with an aim to give the local artists a chance to perform and express their art. This concert will dedicate the first part to Debussy and Chopin by Abu Dhabi-based Greek pianist Ioannis Potamousis. He will be joined by a string quintet (Nikolai Managazze and Narek Darbinyan, violins; Xenia Baknina, viola; Colin Clark, cello; Janis Bukowski, double bass) to represent the full Concerto for piano and orchestra No2 by Camille Saint-Saëns.
A Night in a French Salon is organized in commemoration of the centennial of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns.
The composers of the times were hosted by rich bourgeois or aristocrats in their salon, and they had the opportunity to present their new compositions. They would even propose works where an orchestra would normally be needed but performed in a Salon version, typically with a string quintet to replace the orchestra.
For this concert, after a first part dedicated to Chopin (the most Parisian of polish composers !) and Debussy solo piano work, Ioannis will be joined on stage by a string quintet to offer the audience the full Concerto for piano and orchestra No2 by Camille Saint-Saëns in its salon version.
