Most importantly, Mughal-e-Azam is a spectacular stage production of K, based on Asif’s epic movie of the same title. This theatrical performance from India has been proclaimed as the first Indian Broadway-style musical. The director is distinguished by Feroz Abbas Khan.
The musical format of the spectacle led to the Broadway World Awards in 2017, bagging 7 of the 14 awards, including the Best Indian Play & Best Director. After all, this play starts a new level for Indian theatre, as well as extravagant sets or the Mughal era costumes by Manish Malhotra, the exciting choreography by Mayuri Upadhya or the actors live singing.
Above all, the love story of Prince Salim who declares his love for a lowly court dancer, Anarkali, and who rebels against his mighty father, the Mughal Emperor Akbar disapproving of their relationship.
The stage version of the epic love story is mostly faithful to the K. Asif classic, complete with lavish sets, colorful costumes, flowery verses, soulful music, choreographed dance sequences. The director creates a rich and immersive theatre experience through all these catching elements.
