This Thursday will see the online performance of the DAM, Palestinian hip hop group, who is known for their unique style which mixes Arabic and English music and lyrics. In addition, the concert will be opened with a short performance by rapper Freek.
DAM, meaning “everlasting” in Arabic, became one of the first bands to rap in Arabic and the first Palestinian hip hop band. Martin Vennard from the BBC World Service described DAM’s music as “the most entertaining, original and socially-engaged music to come out of the Middle East”.
The group has released more than 100 singles and three albums – “Dedication”, “Dabke on the Moon” and “Ben Haana Wa Maana”. Their songs are protest-driven and focused on fighting against oppression, Israeli occupation, racism, poverty, drugs, and women’s rights.
