Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, into a family of classical musicians, he is the grandson of sarangi maestro Ustad Moinuddin Khan. Zakir’s early exposure to music led him to pursue a diploma in sitar, and he initially aspired to become a radio producer. However, his passion for comedy steered him toward stand-up, where he found his true calling.
Zakir’s rise to fame began in 2012 when he won Comedy Central India’s “India’s Best Stand Up” competition. His relatable humor, often drawing from personal experiences and societal observations, resonated with a broad audience. He introduced the term “Sakht Launda” to describe a man with strong self-control, which quickly became a popular catchphrase. His stand-up specials, including Haq Se Single (2017), Kaksha Gyarvi (2018), Tathastu (2022), Mannpasand (2023), and Delulu Express (2025), all released on Amazon Prime Video, showcase his storytelling prowess and comedic timing.
Zakir has also made significant contributions to Indian digital entertainment. He wrote and starred in the Amazon Prime web series Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, portraying the character Ronny Pathak. He also served as a mentor on the fifth season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and was a judge on Amazon Prime’s Comicstaan Seasons 2 and 3. His involvement in these shows highlights his commitment to nurturing emerging comedic talent.
