Hailing from Yekaterinburg, the group was founded in 1993 by a team of talented students from the Ural State Technical University (now Ural Federal University). Initially competing in KVN (Club of Funny and Inventive), a long-running comedy competition in Russia, the troupe quickly gained recognition for their unique style and impeccable comedic timing. Their big break came when they won the KVN Major League Championship in 2000, cementing their place in Russian pop culture. Following their success, the troupe moved to television and launched their own comedy show, Uralskie Pelmeni, which airs on the STS channel and is consistently popular with Russian-speaking audiences.
