Initially passionate about boxing, he eventually shifted his focus to comedy while studying physical education at Ural Federal University in Yekaterinburg. During his university years, he began organizing performances in local bars and participating in KVN, a popular Russian humor competition. His big break came in 2013 when he appeared in the “Open Mic” segment of the TNT channel’s show Stand Up, which led him to move to Moscow in 2014 to pursue a full-time comedy career.
In 2019, Saburov became widely known as the host of the hit YouTube comedy show What Happened Next? (Chto bylo dalshe?), produced by LABELCOM. The show’s popularity skyrocketed, earning millions of subscribers and positioning him as one of the most influential comedic figures in Russia. His humor, often observational and candid, resonates with a broad audience and has helped redefine the modern stand-up scene in the region. In 2020, Forbes included him in their “30 Under 30” list, highlighting his growing impact in media and entertainment.
Nurlan Saburov has also taken his comedy to international stages, including a tour in the United States. However, his tour in 2022 sparked controversy when Ukrainian communities protested his performances, urging him to publicly address the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Some shows were postponed or canceled as a result. Despite the controversy, Saburov remains a significant voice in contemporary comedy. He is married to Diana Saburova, whom he met during his university years, and they have two children together.
