The original lineup included Alex Kapranos (lead vocals, guitar), Nick McCarthy (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Bob Hardy (bass), and Paul Thomson (drums). They gained international acclaim with their 2004 single “Take Me Out,” which became a defining track of the post-punk revival era. Their self-titled debut album won the 2004 Mercury Prize and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album.
Over the years, the band has undergone lineup changes. Nick McCarthy departed in 2016 to focus on his family, and Paul Thomson left in 2021. They were replaced by Dino Bardot (guitar) and Julian Corrie (keyboards, guitar) in 2017, and Audrey Tait (drums) in 2021, respectively. Despite these changes, Franz Ferdinand has continued to evolve musically while maintaining their distinctive sound.
In January 2025, they released their sixth studio album, The Human Fear, which explores themes of fear and human emotion. The album received generally favorable reviews, with critics noting its blend of energetic and introspective tracks. Singles like “Audacious” and “Hooked” showcase the band’s continued ability to craft catchy, danceable music.
Franz Ferdinand remains active, performing live and engaging with fans worldwide. Their dynamic performances and evolving sound continue to resonate with audiences, solidifying their place in the indie rock landscape.
