Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, Aruj later moved to the United States to study at the Berklee College of Music, where she honed her skills in music production and engineering. Her music seamlessly blends elements of classical South Asian music, jazz, minimalism, and ambient soundscapes to create a mesmerizing and deeply emotional listening experience.
Aruj gained international recognition with her 2021 album Vulture Prince, a deeply personal and hauntingly beautiful work dedicated to her late brother. Featuring standout tracks like “Mohabbat” and “Diya Hai,” the album received widespread critical praise for its poetic lyricism, rich textures, and soulful delivery. The track “Mohabbat” earned Arooj the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance, making her the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy.
