Due to Coronavirus, UAE Permits the Use of Previously Banned Apps - Coming Soon in UAE
26 March 2020

To support the functioning of private companies in the country during a crisis situation, the UAE authorities decided to remove the previously existing ban on some video and voice calling applications.

Many companies are now striving to create conditions for the remote work of their employees. To help the business sector during the global fight against the spread of novel coronavirus, the previously imposed ban on a number of applications will be lifted. The decision was made both to support the business, and for those pupils and students who are now forced to stay at home and receive distance education.

The following applications will be allowed to use again: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Blackboard, Microsoft Skype for Business, Google Hangout Meet. The list of applications will be updated.

The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in collaboration with the UAE telecom operators Etisalat and du will enable companies to establish business communications through these applications and will do everything possible to maximize support for business in the country.

Community support is now a priority for both the UAE authorities and ordinary citizens. In the face of common difficulties, only united efforts and the unification of the interests of all sides of society will help to withstand and continue development after the resolution of the situation.
