For the first time, one of the top three orchestras in France Toulouse Symphony Orchestra will be making its debut here in the capital for 2 evenings inspired by the stories of a 1001 nights on 2nd and 3rd of May.
The orchestra acts as both a symphony orchestra and the permanent orchestra of the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse.
At the start of the 2008-09 season Tugan Sokhiev became Musical Director of the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse; previously, for several years he has been Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Director of that orchestra. He has been named “Musical Personality of the Year” by the Union of Theatre Criticism, Music and Dance, for “his work as head of the Toulouse Capitol National Orchestra.” It has been said that the orchestra has risen to an even greater status under his direction.
Highlight of the first night will be the most famous piece ever inspired by a 1001 nights: Rimsky Korsakov’s majestic symphonic suite Shéhérazade.

For their second evening in the garden city – Al Ain, the Orchestre national du Capital de Toulouse and Tugan Sokhiev will resume their journey through the music of the Arabian nights. The orchestra will be performing pieces such as Aladdin which are surrounded by a fantasy like atmosphere that capture the colourful characters of the stories of 1001 nights.
